INDEPENDENT ARTIST OF THE MONTH July 2016
There’s a time capsule buried in the garden of Shawna Michele’s childhood home in Massachussetts. Inside the time capsule, there’s a journal filled with Shawna’s early poetry. One day she’ll unearth it. In the meantime, she’s been writing new stuff.
Growing up on New England’s Atlantic coast, Shawna’s writing evokes the enduring yet ever-changing energy of the sea itself. Sometimes tempestuous, sometimes becalmed, sometimes beset by invisible, submerged hazards, there’s a fluidity to Shawna’s poetry, something deep, expansive and ageless. Lyrical, yet rooted, Shawna writes with a realness and sensitivity learned from years spent working in geriatric care.
She’s found time along the way to raise three children and learn to play acoustic guitar. She still enjoys a special relationship with the sea.
Shawna Michele currently has poems on Hello Poetry, you can follow Shawna Michele on Twitter.
